Europe, and that includes the UK, has a near suicidal openness to strangers. One can disappear into the vastness of the new Europe and its multicultural societies, with only moderate skills. If you have money available to you from clandestine sources, it is all the more easy.
The UK, is the only principal European power that does not have an identity system in place. It has existed for years on the continent with no erosion of civil liberties. I will gladly give up some of my so called civil liberties, if it gives us, and that is you and me, not governments, the chance to combat the evil that lurks amongst us. I have always carried an identity card of some kind or other. Police Warrant Card, Military ID, United Nations ID, French Carte de Resident, and have never felt that any of my Civil Liberties were being threatened. Identity cards will not solve the problem by themselves, but they are a useful link in the chain.
Those who shout the loudest about their Civil Liberties being infringed, can only do so because of the unselfish dedication of our Police Officers, the Military and our National Security Services, who put their lives on the line every day, for them.
We are so self destructively open, so afraid to offend those who would see us, our children and cultures, destroyed to enable them to enforce theirs.
The fanatical terrorist has to believe, because only a true believer will give up his life for a cause, has nothing to fear from dying. With his God on his side, the only thing he fears is failure. But failure is not an option which he is permitted to consider.
Obstacles between the terrorist and the success of his mission, are things to be overcome and dealt with in whatever way is convenient. Things. Not people. Not souls.
We are now in a situation where we have to take extreme measures to protect our beliefs and our way of life, and that includes the beliefs of the Muslim community in this country. Islam is not the enemy. Fundamental Extremism, of any kind is, and one of the communities most under threat from the terrorist, is the Muslim community who live peacefully in this country.
I am feel very, very sorry, for the Muslim communities caught up in these problems today, and for the families of those young men, who have been misled into taking to the road of terrorism. I am convinced that their families do not share these beliefs, and are horrified, confused and ashamed of the action taken by their children.
These young people are not the real enemy within us. They are manipulated by evil the cowards who hide in the darkness. They are the ones who poison the minds of these young men and women, but have not the courage to perform the acts themselves, they are the enemy of us all.
The only way for us to rid ourselves of these evil people is through intelligence, unfortunately it requires the Muslim community to come forward and denounce the agitators amongst them. They have to tell the authorities of the countries that they have chosen to live in, were born in, who these people are and what they are planning. It is not a betrayal of their community or faith, far from it. Those who perpetrate these crimes have no place in the their communities, and defile the words of the Koran and the Islamic faith.
It must be very difficult for them to do so, for they fear for the safety of their own families. These are evil people that they must speak out against and I wonder how many of us, and I include myself in that, would put the lives of our families at risk.
I am not a Muslim but I have read the Qur'an, it is a wonderful book of wisdom. Nowhere in its pages does it instruct, or condone, the people who perform these atrocities. No matter how strong your belief may be that a situation is unjust, there can never be justification for the actions of the terrorist. He or she is working against the very thing they claim to be fighting for.
To understand how susceptible young people are to the manipulations of the recruiters, you have to understand the fundamental teachings of Islam.
To be a true believer you have to believe that salvation is attained not by faith, but by works. When a true Muslim dies, he will be able to say the 'Shahada' with conviction.
"La ilaha ill-Allah, Muhammed-ur rasal ullah" which means .... "There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the apostle of Allah". That is the 'Shahada' , the first and greatest teaching of Islam.
It is believed that when an idividuals 'Book of Destiny' is weighed before God, it shows how good a person was, and their reward is to cross the bridge to Paradise.
Paradise is a perfumed garden of material and sensual delights, surrounded by rivers with fountains playing, but before getting there, you have to live this life and carryout 'works' in the name of Allah. If you fail Allah, you go to 'Gahenna' , better known to us as Hell.
This fundamental belief is what is used to convince the vulnarable young minds of those who carry out the acts of terrorism, that those 'acts' or 'works' are their passport to Paradise. Those who work on their 'victims' minds, for victims are what they are, are experts at indoctrination. It is therefore easy to understand how someone can be persuaded that what they are about to do is for the greater cause, and what have they to fear from death when the reward is so great.
